چکیده

This paper describes a low-noise, 900-MHz, voltagecontrolled oscillator (VCO) fabricated in a 0.6m CMOS technology. The VCO consists of four-stage fully differential delay cells performing full switching. It utilizes dual-delay path techniques to achieve high oscillation frequency and obtain a wide tuning range. The VCO operates at 750 MHz to 1.2 GHz, and the tuning range is as large as 50%. The measured results of the phase noise are 101 dBc/Hz at 100-kHz offset and 117 dBc/Hz at 600-kHz offset from the carrier frequency. This value is comparable to that of LC-based integrated oscillators. The oscillator consumes 10 mA from a 3.0-V power supply. A prototype frequency synthesizer with the VCO is also implemented in the same technology, and the measured phase noise of the synthesizer is 113 dBc/Hz at 100-kHz offset.

A 900-MHz phase-locked loop frequency synthesizer implemented in a 0.6m CMOS technology is developed for the Wireless Integrated Network Sensors applications. It incorporates an automatic switched-capacitor (SC) discrete-tuning loop to extend the overall frequency tuning range to 20%, while the VCO gain ( VCO) resulting from the CMOS varactor continuous-tuning is kept low at only 20 MHz/V in or...

Design and Simulation of an X Band LC VCO

In this paper, a systematic method for the circuit parameters design of a monolithic LC Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) is reported. The method is based on the negative resistance generation technique. As a result, a VCO has been designed in 0.18um CMOS technology using a conventional VCO structure to obtain the optimum values for the phase noise and power consumption. The simulation result...

A High Performance 5.4 GHz 3V Voltage Controlled Oscillator in 0.35-≥m BiCMOS Technology

This paper presents a fully integrated 5.4-GHz CMOS Voltage-controlled Oscillator (VCO) with a low phase noise and ultra linear VCO gain (Kvco) in 0.35-μm SiGe (Silicon Germanium) BiCMOS technology. In order to increase the linearity of the VCO, a resonant circuit is proposed that consists of four parallel p-n junction varactor pairs. The VCO operate at a bias current of 3.13 mA and a supply vo...

A Thesis for the Degree of Master Low-Power CMOS Differential LC-VCO and QVCO Design

This thesis presents a backgate coupled QVCO with current reused structure, and complementary cross-coupled differential Colpitts VCO and QVCO. The formally proposed QVCO not only dissipates significantly lower power but also improves 1/ƒ close-in phase noise, compared to the conventional QVCO. For verification of the suggested idea, the proposed QVCO designed for 2 GHz operation based on a 0.1...
